With over 40 years of litigation experience and 170 trials as first chair, Mr. O’Doherty is one of the most seasoned trial attorneys in the state of California. He brings vast litigation experience from prior work within the defense side of the bar. Mr. O’Doherty’s passion is to represent injured individuals, pursuing their rights in all aspects of civil litigation all the way through, if warranted, trial by jury.
Mr. O’Doherty is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) – an elite invitation only national organization. He holds the rank of Diplomate (highest rank) within ABOTA.
Mr. O’Doherty obtained his BA degree in Political Science/International Relations from St. Michael’s College, Vermont. He obtained his law degree at Western State University College of Law, Fullerton. While in law school, Mr. O’Doherty worked full time as an investigator for Transit Casualty, a premier underwriter at the time in the transportation and property field. He rose in the ranks at Transit all the way up to associate general counsel before he shifted his focus to private practice. Mr. O’Doherty has developed an expertise in litigating a wide variety of motor vehicle cases. He has experience litigating motor vehicle-related matters involving trucking companies, municipal and private bus companies, and taxi fleet operators.Throughout his career he has also handled a wide variety of non-automotive cases, including premises liability, landslide matters, homeowners association matters, and catastrophic product defect cases.
Outside of the office, Mr. O’Doherty has been a Registered Agent for the NFL Players Association, was appointed Special Master by the State Bar of California, and has acted as Mediator and Arbitrator for the Los Angeles Superior Court and in private matters. He is also a music enthusiast and a licensed pilot.
